yeah yesterday just had council excursion. was damn damn fun man.
we really hope that the councillors had learnt alot from the ice breaking games and
race man. although the race was abit tiring , but hope it is useful to all of them.
nw im gg to summarise the the whole day de event . so pay attention.
we reached sentosa at about 10. and then we went to siloso beach. once we reached
there , we started our ice breaking games. there was husband and wife. and for those
couples tat did not get into the queue for more than 2 times , they have to do
forfeit where by the guy had to propose to the girl for 1 minute and we will take
down the video. haha , first up was calvin and cheryl lee. and calvin was like did
not wanna do, and at the end , there was a group of strangers coming over to us and
we asked them to stay back to watch how calvin propse to cheryl haha . so fun. and
he had to take the things we gave to such as a fake ring and a tree branch to be
flower and propose to her. haha den cheryl lee said no, den he said he will take
care of her for the rest of his life till he die. haha . so sweet rite. and this is
our couple of the day. haha ... rox on man. and next up for the forfeit was jun xing
and jane . also quite funny la. about the same, but jun xing did not have any
problem to such a thing as he is an actor anyway for ur info.
after the husband and wife , we played 'chase me for ur name. the exco will stick
the names of the councillors on to different ppl and councillors have to chase after
ppl for their own names and at the same time protect their the name at their back as
well. at the end only 3 won the games as we councillors are all vv gd runners. all
had good stamina.
the forfeit was to sing as loud as possible to sttract ppl from places to come and
be their audiences. they were good man , there was quite a no. of ppl coming over to
be the audiences. erm, good job.
the last ice breaking game is blow wind blow. and i also joined the game. i did win
anyway , but they so bad , they ask the winners to do the forfeit, and so i had to
do it man. we did chicken dance, but was quite nice la as for those councillors who
did not know how to play , they learnt new things .
after that we had a talk by mdm chong for half an hour den we slpit into our own
committee for 20 minutes den we went for lunch. lunch was nt tat nice as the food
court closed down and so we had to go to burgerking to eat fast food. after lunch ,
we went back to the beach and start the race. teh race was so so tiring. first up we
split the councillors into 4 groups of 4s. den we started playing hihi captian game.
den the ones tat lost had to be kidnapped by the exco memebrs. and those who survive
will have to find clues from wat we gave them station by station to save their own
memebrs. haha their were 9 station. and we group came in 2nd. haha
stayed over till 8+. we had free game from 6 till 8+. we played captain netball. it
was so fun tat ppl ( strangers ) started to ask us if they can join us. den i think
as long as there is no harm , y dont we know more friends and so we started to
introduce ourselves to them and they also intro themselves to us. and den we started
to play the games on.
it was so tiring and fun.
i hope next time when we organise such kind of excursion, more councillors can join
us. i will remmebr this day man coucnillors.

Hey people!! Here are the Exam Tips!!!
Advantages -Exams value your memories and your skills and ability to understand what you are studying. They make you prepare before hand and, if they are unseen, they make you cover a lot of topics as you do not know the questions. They also force you to be specific and focused, as time is limited in most exams. -Examinations test a student's knowledge and understanding of a particular subject. They bring questions from an entire module together in a challenging environment.
Attitude -It is wise to remember that exams are not there as punishment. Instead, they are a good way of testing to see how much information you have learnt. We all hate exams, but we have to realise that we cannot run away from them as there is always another one waiting around the corner -Examinations are not really something to fear because, usually, if you attend to revising your subject you should not have to much of a problem when you get into the exam.
Avoiding Stress -Although examinations can be stressful, there are ways to avoid stress. Revision before hand is very helpful, as is group discussion. In the exam it helps to make a good plan, including points, because should you fail to finish in time, the plan and points can gain you some marks. Always go for the question you are sure of. We dread exams and get really nervous and anxious. Many thoughts rush through our minds and we fear that our minds will go blank in the exam room and we will forget everything we have revised. Three main points to remember in alleviating exam stress, are preparation, relaxation, and confidence.
Relaxation -Allow yourself time for relaxation and thinking -Use strategies like deep breathing to overcome panic -Visualise yourself in positive and relaxing situations
During Your Revision "Observe the time of day you work best". "I think the best time for study is first thing in the morning before I have washed or had breakfast". "I would not study after 9.30pm". Stop work every hour for a break. Get up, walk around, have a cup of something
Where to revise -Find the most productive place to work -Identify your space for intensive study and work there -Work wherever you can concentrate
-The night before the exam have a good sleep. -Have a good meal before the exam. -Prepare everything the night before. Wear comfortable clothing. Gentle exercise might relax you.
During the Examinations -Calm Down -Do not panic -Relax -Read the instructions on the exam paper -Read the questions carefully. It is quite common for questions to make no sense the first time a panicky student reads them. Relax. Read them carefully again. -Identify the questions you think you will answer -Use the time given sensibly. -Read each question carefully and remain focused on it throughout your answer. -Structure your answer paying attention to the exact wording of the question. -If you run out of time on a question it is usually best to go on to the next question. -If you have left a question unfinished you may be able to find the time to come back to it.
A final thought !!!Remember that exams are not the be all and end all - they are just one aspect of your student life!!!

Friends!! They are people we love, trust, have fun together, and of course, we can't live without them. Who would want to have no friends at all??? So, we have a special day for Friends and that's the International Friendship Day!! It's a special day to recognise our friends and their contributions to our lives. Also, friendship is very important as it brings peace and harmony to the world. A great reason to celebrate isn't it?
Friends may come in different shapes and sizes, age and genders, but they are still people that are imposrtant in your life. Since Friendship Day occurs only annually, make the most of it! Let your friends know that you care for them, and that they are truly appreciated. Here are 5 tips to celebrate Friendship Day and show your friends they are special: 1) Buy small presents for them like chocolates and sweets 2) Write them cards to tell them how important your friendship is 3) Dedicate songs to your friends 4) Plan group outings 5) Just a simple hug never fail to make anyone's day!

Always Lead by Encouraging the Heart
Councillors waiting to be sweared in, guests, staff, AMKsians, ladies and gentlemen, Good afternoon. Today's ceremony marks the appointment of new Student Councilors as well as the re-appointments for others.
All first-time Student Councillors will have to undergo a rigorous selection process. You have been identified, interviewed, and will be put through a series of situational tests before been confirmed in your appointment. The process may sound like a lot but it is really the easier part. The more challenging part is to shoulder with a fierce sense of pride the heavy responsibilities that you have been entrusted with as a Student Councillor.
Our expectations of Student Councillors are high. We have high hopes for you because you are among the best AMKsians. Through you, we want to set a high standard for all other AMKsians to emulate.
On this same occasion last year, I shared my dreams for the Student Council. Today, I want to share on the progress that we have made towards realizing the dreams.
Students Councillors in our school have all along been tasked with to take charge of important school events and activities. I am please to share with all present that you have been truly outstanding in supporting and organising school's events. Let me begin first with the NOMAD in July last year. While the purpose of NOMAD was to showcase the performing arts, you were very welcoming to the visitors. The charming and confident manner in which you carried out your ushering duty left a deep impression on the visitors. That night, they were treated to a feast of fine aesthetics performance and also went away with pleasant memories of the way you hosted their visit. If you impressed the visitors during the NOMAD with your suaveness and your ability to make them feel welcome, it was your calmness in dealing with the unexpected and your ability to shift resources that caught the attention of the Sec 1 parents. Parents present gave me feedback that you were very knowledgeable when answering their queries and very attentive to their needs. For most of these parents, it was their first and at most second encounter at close range with AMKsians. Your interaction with them gave them the confidence that Ang Mo Kio Secondary School produces fine young men and women and that their children will one day turn out as fine as you. Councillors, you were even more impressive in the Sec 1 Orientation. You conceptualised, planned and executed the camp for close to 320 Sec 1 students who had just entered a new phase in their life. Instead of overwhelming them, you helped them paced their adjustment to their classmates and the school environment with a series of enjoyable and creative activities. The effort and the ingenuity that you put in to help the Sec 1s break the ice with their classmates were greatly appreciated by their parents. The parents were amazed that our Sec 2 to 4 Student Councillors could execute so successfully an event of this scale. That night, I received several other compliments on your performance such as "I thought only JC students are able to organise an event like that", "Which event organizer did the school engage for this camp?"
Last year, I also challenged Student Councillors to lead and implement changes. This year, the school launched the school blog. I want to thank the Student Councillors for working with our IT Educator Ms Lek in starting and moderating the blog. You have helped to create another valuable channel for AMKsians to give their feedback to the school. Another group of you were involved in improving the school and you came up with 2 projects.
My third challenge was for Student Councillors to be involved in making decisions jointly with teachers and the school leadership. Mei Yan and Mun Yee were involved in the Steering Committee for Fund Fiesta and hence were very much in the thick of action. The voice of the student body voice was also heard through their active participation in the Fund Fiesta Committee
With the high calibre of the Student Councillors that we have today, I am confident that we should be able to engage Councillors in higher level thinking and operations.
In my address to you last year, I advise you to always make sure that as leaders of other students in the school, you must always make sure that your actions and your words are same. Today, I want to give you another piece of advice using a story. This is a story about frogs.
Vertical Frog Race
Once there was a bunch of tiny frogs who arranged a vertical race. The goal was to reach the top of a very high tower. A big crowd gathered around the tower to see the race and to ostensibly cheer on the contestants. Honestly, no one in crowd really believed that the tiny frogs would reach the top of the tower. There were whispers and mutterings like: "Way too difficult!!" "They'll never make it to the top!" "The tower is too high!" "The frogs are too small and weak!" And true enough, after an initial spurt of energy, the frogs began collapsing. The crowd continued to yell: "No one's gonna make it!" More and more of the tiny frogs fell prey to exhaustion and gave up. But ONE continued climbing higher and higher and higher... This one wouldn't give up! Finally, to the disbelief and amazement of the crowd, that one frog reached the top! The other frogs were stunned. More than just stunned ? They were embarrassed. It turns out that none of them actually believed any one of them could make it to the top. So how did that one little frog complete the feat with his small webbed feet? Well, it turns out that the winning frog was deaf!
So what we can learn from this story about leadership? Leadership is about influencing others to do things willingly. As leaders of students, you must remember and practice influencing others by encouraging their hearts and not by striking fear into them. When you work with AMKsians and fellow Student Councillors on projects, there will be occasions that people will become exhausted and frustrated. They may be tempted to give up. A true leader encourage the hearts of their people to carry on by showing genuine acts of caring, saying kind words and gently encouraging all to push on because the pot of gold is just at the end of the rainbow. Conversely, unkind words can cost people to lose confidence in themselves and interest in the project. So leadership is about working the relationship you have with people.
As a school, we have come up with a Leadership Compass to help our student Leaders work towards building quality relationship with people they work with. Mr Siva will reveal more details to you in the Combined Camps in June.
On this note, I would to congratulate all Student Councillors on your first appointment or re-appointment. I also want to thank all the Councillors who have completed their term of office serving the school and their fellow AMKsians so well. Continue to strive to do your best and work with the school to make it even better.
You can if you work on enhancing the relationship you have with AMKsians you work with.
Finally,I want to thank the 2 teacher-in-charge Miss Ng Kae Pheng and Mrdm Chong Lai Yin for doing a wondering job developing the Student Councillors into knowledgeable, motivated and engaged young men and women.
Thank you.
A very good afternoon to, Mr. Tan, Mdm Tong, Teachers, Invited guests and my fellow AMKsians. I am Randy Vong of class 3/5. Before I start, I would like to thank all of you for being present here today to witness our 6th Student Council Investiture.
I feel very honoured to be standing here today speaking as the president of the Student Council Board. To start off, I would first like to thank the school for giving me such a wonderful opportunity as a leader of the school. And also to my teachers and seniors, especially Mei Yan and Mun Yee, as well as all the other Exco members of the 5th student Council Board, who had always been there to guide and shape me into what I am today. No amount of words can express my appreciation to all of you.
The Student Council Board is like an organisation that links the staff and teachers of the school to the student body. The 5th Student Council Board has done a wonderful job in bringing the Council Board to what it is now. I still remember vividly about our school production 'Nomad' last year. During that period of time, all of us had to stay back very late to help out in the whole event. We saw our 5th Student Council Board really come together as one to make every little thing possible for the students and for the school. Many of us put in a lot of effort to set up the information counters which we were assigned to. We helped one another and never gave up when we met with difficulties. From this, I can strongly comment that the unity and spirit we, councillors and students, bear can create a better tomorrow for AMKSS.
My learning journey as a leader started when I was in Secondary one. New in the Student Council board, I faced many difficulties and obstacles, and through them, I gained priceless experiences. These experiences are one of the many that would remain etched in my memory for the rest of my life and I am definitely glad to be part of this big family.
As the saying goes, "With great power comes a great responsibility". This definitely is deemed as true. I so forth promise, with this power that I bear from this very moment, I shall do my utmost best to fulfill my responsibilities and bring the 6th Student Council Board to greater heights.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our teacher advisors, Ms Ng and Mdm Chong for their guidance and advices. Mdm Chong, thank you very much for guidance in the past one year, I really appreciate your patience and I will continue to learn from you as much as possible. Ms Ng, I believe that you had put in a lot of effort all these years to groom us all into strong and committed individuals. And all of us feel that you are the sunshine that showed us the correct way to walk. That true path is in front of us all, so councilors let us all walk hand-in-hand together towards that hall of success. This is just the start of my journey, so I hope that I can learn to be a good leader and learn to be a good president!
And this marks the end of my speech. Thank you!

It's a whole brand new year for the Student Council Board. It's been around 4 months since we bid goodbye to 2005, and welcome 2006. AMKSS Student Council Investiture is finally here. What is it actually? Well, the Annual Student Council Investiture is held to recognise the efforts and contributions of student councillors whose duties range from organising school events to representing the student body. It is also the day when we welcome a new batch of councillors and bid farewell to the graduating councillors. Sound too serious?? Not exactly, if you know what happens behind the scenes, or during the preparations...
On the 4th of April 2006, all the councillors (new and old...ok, graduating) had their (or our) first SCI rehearsal. All of us were informed about where to sit and walk and all the positions that we have to know. As usual, like what happened in every rehearsal that we have for every year, the main highlight would be the walk-in. Everyone felt excited about having to walk on the Royal Red Carpet on the actual day, and so all of us decided on what we are going to do when we walk into the hall on The Carpet. NGs do happen. So the walk-ins were not for a few times, but for umpteen times, until the word okay could describe the whole thing.
Lastly, the most anticipated performance by the graduating councillors finally came. There was laughter of course, since the graduating councillors are not born dancers. However, the whole performance was all right and quite entertaining, since the councillors put in great effort to their performance, by staying back in school to practise their dance over and over again.
Today, we had our second and last rehearsal. Everything was much better than the first rehearsal, with the councillors more prepared and more familiar with what they have to do. The final touching up was done and we finally got the word perfect said by Ms. Ng for the reciting of Student Council Pledge. Wonderful isn't it?? Then, let's put up our best performance together for tomorrow!!!

Hello all this is the new council blog that has been created to basically inform everyone on any events that the council has done or any upcoming events such as the AMKSS Student Councillor Investiture '06 happening on Friday the 7th of April '06. EXCO members will be updating the blog and you will be able to find pictures and write ups about an event such as you would in a normal blog. We will not be having a tagboard due to safety reasons, so we are sorry but you will not be able to post any comments, but if you think we can have changes to our blog, you ar most welcome to come to the council room to tell us your suggestions. Hope you will enjoy our blog,
